Lang Tengah Island is a little less known because it’s small and secluded, thus activities are pretty limited. This island is located off the coast of Terengganu, around 5 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur to the main jetty (Merang) and 45 minutes by speedboat. This place is perfect for holiday goers who are seeking for some quiet, serene and tropical island getaway that offers more privacy. There are 4 resorts located on this island, I stayed at D’Coconut Lagoon Resort (East Wing) for a total of 2 nights.
The room was very basic. I knew going to an island like this and paying around USD100 for a night, I’d be getting a very basic accommodation. I didn’t expect much because the room functioned as a place for me to sleep and change my clothes. I’d be spending most of the time by the beach or swimming with fishes anyway which exactly what I did. The room was tiny, no TV and the fridge was not functioning well, bed and pillows were just fine but the exterior of the resort is quite amazing. It has a decent pool and a cafe with an average buffet spread.
The Beaches & Views
This is a breathtaking island, with crystal clear ombre seawater, white sandy beaches and scenic views. A fantastic island with great diving and snorkeling possibilities. It’s located in between Perhentian Island (the small island is quite known for the party scene) and Redang Island – 30 minutes away each. Island hopping is possible by renting a private boat. The beaches here look so pristine, making it the perfect place for honeymooners and beach goers who prefer a quiet tropical island escapade.
Snorkelling with Baby Sharks
With water as clear as this, you wouldn’t want to miss the chance to swim with fishes and if you’re lucky enough, you could be swimming with baby sharks and stingrays. Although the water here is quite crystal clear with nice assorted fishes and corals, the snorkelling experience was not as great as the one in Tioman Island because most of the corals here have died but the visibility is still on point.
Hiking, Blue Sand & Turtle Watching
If you’re not into snorkelling or diving, you can opt for the hiking activity at this small hilly rainforested island or see how the powdery white sand gets lit up by clusters of glowing planktons at night. I didn’t get to see this as it was raining on both nights but if you’re heading there during the peak season, you shouldn’t miss the chance to see the blue tint sand after 10pm. You can also do turtle watching at Turtle Bay, the island has nesting green turtles from April to October.
Perfect Place to De-stress
I was born for the sea. I find comfort that’s been buried in the deepest abyss of the ocean; bliss. It’s nice to be away from life sometimes. Taking a step back and reflect on what I’ve done and going to do or simply to pause life for a moment and appreciate the non-living things. Keeping life as simple as possible is no easy challenge, I often feel the need to achieve more than what I already have but what I really want is a simple and sufficient life. I can always be the simplest Me every time I’m at the beach, this is my happy place. Lang Tengah was totally a paradise and a nice short escapade.
